Step Up Your Art Game For Less!

Up until my most recent apartment, I was TERRIBLE about decorating. It was never a matter of not having an eye for things, but more so a matter of home décor (especially art) being too expensive for me to decorate to my taste. When I was moving into my current apartment a few years ago, I scoured Pinterest for décor ideas on a budget and came across a YouTube channel called “Mr. Kate” that featured a lot of cool design ideas that were thrifted. I’m ashamed to admit that prior to this, I’d only thrifted for clothes and accessories, it hadn’t even occurred to me to look for affordable art! Since learning the error of my ways, I’ve found so many cool pieces to add to my gallery wall or to spruce up other areas of my home! Here are a few of my most recent art finds:

At a recent trip to the Derby Goodwill, I found a couple of cute, matching canvas prints that I though would be a perfect way to add a hint of spring to my living room. Even better, they were brand new, still in the original boxes! I’ve seen these Opalhouse canvases at Target before, so I know they are regularly $10 each (which isn’t too bad), but I was able to snag these for $2.99 each! I love the minimalist design and soft, muted colors and I think they are an excellent addition to my collection.

Being a former California girl, I love ocean scenes in art and photography, so I was excited to find this panel piece of the ocean. I love all of the colors in it and it’s hard to capture in a picture, but there are also little metallic accents that give this extra dimension. This was a steal at $3.99 (Maize Road Goodwill) and I can’t wait to put it up!

The final canvas piece I found at the Maize Rd Goodwill is probably meant for a child’s room as it is from Winnie the Pooh, but this holds some special meaning for me. When I was in 7th grade I had a mentor who I got to meet with once a week and at the end of our time together for the year. She gave me a pin of Winnie the Pooh and Piglet in the original illustration style to signify our friendship. That was a special relationship for me at a time when I really needed it, so when I saw this canvas in that same illustration style, my sentimentality got the best of me and I grabbed it. $2.99 for a cute piece of art, but more importantly for a reminder of friendship and love seems more than worth it!

The next time you’re looking to make a new addition to your art collection, check out your local Goodwill, you never know what you might find! Happy Hunting!
