Community Athlete: Abbi Faflick

As a Wichita East High senior, Abbi is active in sports, school clubs and volunteering in her community. She begins her senior year as the Acettes varsity dance team head captain, leading them to earn gold ratings on each routine at summer camp and an overall showmanship award. Abbi was also named to the NDA All American Team. In addition to dance, Abbi participates in track and field, lettering three years in dance and one year in track. Abbi carries a 3.60 GPA and serves as a middle school counselor. She holds leadership positions as a Drama Club officer, the Indian dance club president, the editor of the school newspaper and the FCA huddle leader. She participates in other East High clubs such as NHS, Student leadership, Spanish Club, and Quill and Scroll. Abbi actively participates in the Madrigals choir and theater as well as her church choir and high school worship team at Eastminster. Abbi has been an active member of her community, volunteering for the Riverfest and the KSHSAA track meet. She has taken short-term mission trips, the most recent to Managua, Nicaragua, where she performed service work at a local school. She has also spent a week of each of the last three summers volunteering as a middle school camp counselor. After high school, Abbi plans to attend college and major in secondary education. She wants to teach Choir or Newspaper/English. Abbi plans to continue her studies in Spanish and hopes to be able to utilize that skill in connecting with people.

As a local nonprofit organization and the presenting sponsor for VYPE Magazine’s Community Athlete of the Month, Goodwill understands the importance of athletics and community involvement in building character and valuable skills that will be used later in life when entering the workforce. Goodwill’s mission, to provide job training and education opportunities to people with disabilities and other barriers to employment, is carried out in communities across Kansas. Each month, Goodwill recognizes a student athlete who excels within the community through volunteerism, charitable work and community involvement.
