Community Athlete: Margarita Borunda

Margarita is a senior at North High and participates in softball for the Redskins. She has completed her WATC college classes with an A; has been on the Honor Roll each year and was the school’s Wendy’s High School Heisman nominee in 2016. Margarita carries a 3.26 GPA and is a member of the HALO, Spanish Honor Society, WSU TRIO and GEAR UP clubs at school. She has volunteered for the WDSS Buddy Walk, USD 259 Migrant Education Program, Kansas Humane Society, Prairie Schooner 2016, Link4Life, Operation Holiday and City of Wichita Night with Santa. Margarita plans to attend Sterling College on a softball scholarship and study Criminal Justice. She then plans to continue her education at K-State to study Criminology and eventually enroll in the Police Academy.

As a local nonprofit organization and the presenting sponsor for VYPE Magazine’s Community Athlete of the Month, Goodwill understands the importance of athletics and community involvement in building character and valuable skills that will be used later in life when entering the workforce. Goodwill’s mission, to provide job trainingand education opportunities to people with disabilities and other barriers to employment, is carried out in communities across Kansas. Each month, Goodwill recognizes a student athlete who excels within the community through volunteerism, charitable work and community involvement.
