Thrift Tips

If you are into upcycling clothes, whether its vintage or current, there a few things to keep in mind when hunting the aisles of your favorite thrift store.

Thrift Tips to Upcycle Your Style

  • Make sure the piece is in good condition with minimal tears and fraying; too much of either limits the amount of material you have to work with.
  • Check out the seams…how heavy is the stitch work and where it is placed; this may determine how easy or hard it will be to take apart and refashion back together.
  • If you want to dye a piece, look for lighter colors and fabric that is more receptive to the dye process.
  • Buttons can totally change the look or vibe of a piece; don’t be discouraged from selecting a piece if you don’t like the buttons…they can be replaced easily.
  • Be careful to recognize vintage clothing or designer pieces that may be more valuable as is, than if you were to make permanent changes.

Ready to embark on your upcycling journey? Dive into the aisles of your favorite thrift store armed with these tips and unleash your creativity! Remember, each piece holds the potential for a unique and personalized fashion statement.
