One night. Dozens of stories and countless lives impacted. Stand with Goodwill and make change happen.
In 1902, Edgar J. Helms founded the Goodwill movement with a simple but powerful idea: provide people with opportunities, not just assistance. As a minister in Boston, Helms collected unwanted household goods from more affluent neighborhoods, then hired people who were unemployed or experiencing poverty to repair and restore those items. The refurbished goods were sold, creating wages and opportunities for those workers.
This approach became the foundation of Goodwill’s mission, using the power of work to help people achieve independence and transform their lives. More than 120 years later, that vision continues through Goodwill organizations across the world, just like ours.
