In late September 2025, Goodwill Adult Day Program participant Zach S. took part in Fishing Has No Boundaries for the first time and made the most of it.
Competing in El Dorado, Kansas, Zach earned 2nd place for the largest Catfish and 4th place in the Drum Fish category, an impressive accomplishment for a first-time participant. With support from his grandfather, who accompanied him for the weekend, Zach stayed focused and determined throughout the competition.
Reeling in his catch wasn’t easy. Zach described the experience as a true battle, fighting the fish’s strength as it pulled hard on the line. With persistence and a little help from a volunteer, he successfully brought in the fish that earned him a top finish.
Zach credits his previous fishing experience for helping him stay confident and prepared, even during the toughest moments. That determination paid off, and he was incredibly proud of himself for placing 2nd with the largest Catfish.
Beyond the competition, Zach’s story is rooted in the strong support system around him. His grandparents continuously encourage him to stay active, try new things, and build connections with both disabled and non-disabled peers. Because of their support, Zach has had the opportunity to travel, explore new activities, and experience moments like this one.
The experience left a lasting impact, boosting Zach’s confidence and reinforcing his belief that he can accomplish anything he sets his mind to. And he’s already looking forward to returning in 2026.
