Guiles is a proud Derby Project SEARCH program graduate at McConnell Air Force Base. After graduation, he was determined not to let his hard-earned skills go to waste. With help from his support team and Goodwill Employment Training Services (ETS), Guiles expanded his abilities and landed a position at Papa John’s in Derby, Kansas.
Guiles brought more than just his skills to Papa John’s—his charm, and sense of humor won over his coworkers and customers. As a janitor, he quickly took on additional responsibilities, including unloading trucks, folding pizza boxes, and making pizzas. He’s now working toward becoming “Certified in Dough”! Overcoming his initial fear of the ovens, Guiles confidently manages tasks like taking pizzas out and placing new ones in. He also showed initiative by taking charge of online order tickets and labeling boxes, further proving his dedication to his role.
Guiles’s ultimate goal was gaining independence, responsibility, and income. He’s achieved all this and more through his hard work and determination. His growth in communication and work ethic has not only benefited him but has also enriched the workplace with his positive energy and drive.
Outside of work, Guiles stays active with the Derby Free Spirits Special Olympics, participating in volleyball, basketball, bowling, and track. His family proudly shares how much he loves his job and how perfectly it fits him. They also express their gratitude to the Papa John’s team for allowing Guiles to shine.
At Goodwill, we focus on matching individuals with opportunities that align with their skills and passions while fostering lifelong connections. Guiles’s journey proves that there is power in community support, and we’re incredibly proud of all he’s accomplished!
