In 2017, Emily proudly earned her high school diploma through NexStep Alliance, a partnership with Goodwill and WSU Tech. She also achieved dual certifications as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Home Health Aide. This milestone was significant as she graduated alongside her two younger siblings, marking a shared family accomplishment.
Emily and her siblings often studied together, celebrating each other’s victories. When she faced the nerve-wracking final math test, their encouragement, and a simple yet powerful reminder – “You can do it!” – gave her the confidence to succeed.

Fast forward to May 2024, Emily reached another milestone—graduating from Butler Community College with an associate’s degree in Exercise Science. Her journey didn’t stop there, she is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science at Wichita State University and plans to complete a master’s degree in Athletic Training.
The path to her new dream wasn’t always clear. Initially, Emily’s goal was to become a registered nurse. However, the life-changing events of the COVID-19 pandemic inspired her to shift gears. Realizing her true passion was in athletics; she decided to pursue athletic training—and it felt like the perfect fit.
“NexStep not only gave me a chance to embrace being the social butterfly I am, especially after being homeschooled, but it also helped me literally take the next step in my career.”
Now more determined than ever, Emily is confident she is exactly where she’s meant to be. With her goals firmly in sight, her future is bright.
