A day’s work produces more than just a paycheck — it gives purpose, pride and dignity. People with developmental disabilities learn core job skills while earning a wage in our adult day program.
Skills Development participants (employees) work in Goodwill’s ISO-certified manufacturing facility in Wichita, Kansas, with the guidance of trained program specialists. To provide these jobs, Goodwill contracts with businesses internationally to complete work like repackaging, sorting, kit assembly, labeling, sewing and more.
Participants work on personalized improvement plans and progress at their own pace.
Skills Development is a controlled work environment. For participants ready to explore integrated community employment, we provide “stepping stone” programs to help support that transition.
The Mobile Crew transports Skills Development employees to local Goodwill stores. Under the supervision of a program specialist, employees assist customers, rotate merchandise and more.
This work program helps participants get comfortable working in the community, follow a scheduled work plan and develop customer service skills.
Our Newton Goodwill store provides an employment program for people with disabilities along with dedicated life skills training spaces. Participants must be referred by the Harvey-Marion County Community Developmental Disabilities Organization (CDDO) (Newton).
Potential participants must be referred by the Community Developmental Disabilities Organization (CDDO) in their area.
All employees earn at least minimum wage or higher. Though they can’t be hired and fired as with a traditional work setting, all employees earn a paycheck for hours worked.
