Every September, communities across the country celebrate National Workforce Development Month, a time to recognize the programs, professionals, and partnerships that help people build skills, secure employment, and achieve greater economic stability. This observance was established by the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals (NAWDP) to raise awareness of the critical role workforce development plays in strengthening individuals, businesses, and local economies.
At Goodwill Industries of Kansas, workforce development is at the heart of our mission. While most people know Goodwill for our retail stores and donation centers, our true purpose is transforming lives and communities through the power of education, training, and employment. Revenue generated through donated goods helps fund employment, education, and support services that empower Kansans to build bright futures.
We offer a variety of workforce development programs designed to meet people where they are and help them achieve their goals:
These programs support individuals facing a variety of barriers while helping employers find qualified, motivated workers. By investing in workforce development, we strengthen families, businesses, and communities throughout Kansas.
One of the newest ways Goodwill is advancing workforce development is through our network of Opportunity Centers. These community-based locations provide services such as job readiness training, digital literacy instruction, GED prep, English language classes, and employment support. The centers are designed to bring critical resources directly into neighborhoods where they are needed the most. Check out our newest Opportunity Center located inside our West Central store in Wichita.
As we celebrate Workforce Development Month, we are grateful for our employees, partners, employers, donors, and program participants who make this work possible. Your support helps transform potential into opportunity and strengthens the workforce that drives our communities forward.
