Director of Disability and Advocacy Services
Proposed sweeping changes by KDADS to the IDD service system represent major and potentially irreversible changes to the network of services that was built by Kansas communities to support our most vulnerable Kansans.
We are asking our elected officials to assist families and professionals in “Building it Better,” by supporting language in SB 161 and HB 2240 or in the next fiscal year’s budget that will require KDADS to receive legislative approval of any proposed changes to the IDD system.
Director of Disability and Advocacy Services
“Unbundling services would eliminate the employment opportunities of the majority of our clients. Community employers are not equipped to support individuals with essential hygiene needs, nor are they prepared to manage certain behavioral challenges. Our program provides comprehensive support and our structured settings empower clients to participate, develop skills, and earn a meaningful paycheck in an environment tailored to their success.”
Day Services Participant
“If the unbundling proposal goes into effect, it would give Chris just six more months of work at Goodwill. Because of his disability, he would be deemed unemployable in the community, and would have to go to a non-work-based day program.”
Day Services Participant
“I was viewed as unemployable due to my physical limitations. At Goodwill, I have a chance to learn, work, and earn a paycheck to help support myself. If unbundling proceeds, I won’t be able to earn a paycheck because a community employer would not assist me with my personal needs during the workday.”
Director of Operations
“Our clients are the backbone of our contract work, bringing dedication and value that keep our operations running smoothly. They are essential to our manufacturing operations and bring an intangible strength to our inclusive work environment.”
