Goodwill’s Re-Entry Services program is part of our overall effort to assist individuals seeking their fullest potential. Our Re-Entry program is aimed at helping Kansans involved in the justice system successfully maintain their freedom and make the most of their second chance.
Not only is the program good for participants, but the entire community benefits. Studies show a significant reduction in recidivism when citizens re-entering the community obtain education, skills, and meaningful employment – easing the financial strain on the criminal justice system, as well as city, county, and state governments.
Through Goodwill’s NexStep Alliance program, a partnership between Goodwill Industries of Kansas and WSU Tech, qualified participants earn their high school diplomas and industry-recognized credentials through an immersive, 18-week, accredited adult education program. With guidance and support, participants will move into an in-demand career to support their goals and families.
When participants secure meaningful employment through our Re-Entry program, the entire community benefits. Through employment, participants pay income taxes, increase their buying power, and are less reliant on government assistance.
Individuals who are able to achieve a sustainable living wage are one-third less likely to return to prison; meaningful employment reduces recidivism. Reducing the chance of an individual returning to prison also eases the financial strain on the criminal justice system, including city, county, and state governments.
