Easy DIY Halloween Costumes

First up, a “Pumpkin Pi” costume (!) Ba-dum-ching! The great part about this costume was that it cost me less than $8.00 to put together. I started with a x-large bright orange t-shirt, also $1.99. I found a large green t-shirt for $1.99 that I would end up using for 2 costume idea. I bought a king size white bed sheet for $1.99. I cut off the sleeves of the orange tee to make it fit more like a tank top, used a sharpie to add pumpkin lines and the “pi” sign, then filled the bottom of the shirt with the bed sheets to create the pumpkin shape. I tucked the bottom of the orange tee into some black jeggings to keep the pumpkin in place. To finish the look, I cut out a stem and some leaves for a hat.

My next costume is another clever pun! With just a few materials, I became “French Toast” I started with a pair of black jeggings from the GAP – which work for this costume but also for everyday wear. Next, I found a black and white horizontal stripe shirt to help add to the “French” flair, then added a fuchsia beret to finish off the “Frenchiness.” I created a piece of toast, complete with a melting piece of butter, out of construction paper and stuck it to the front of the t-shirt to complete the pun. And for the cherry on top, I gave myself a little curly mustache – just because it felt so French!

My last look was an attempt at a fun couple’s costume idea. My husband has been a fan of the Guess Who game since childhood, so I searched for the right pieces to become some of the characters from the game. With a little work, I created a Guess Who frame for each of us. For Caleb’s outfit, I just needed an orange hat and a pair of sunglasses (which we removed the lenses from.) For mine, I used what was left of  the large green t-shirt to create a green beret.

Don’t be afraid to use your imagination when you’re hunting for the perfect costume this October! There’s so much to find at your local Goodwill!
