Hello my Goodwill friends! I hope you are having a wonderful summer so far! I have to tell you, I have found some pretty great things at my local Goodwill stores this year! But one of my favorite things to do is take my friends and family shopping and help them find some fun new looks together. This past month my sweet Mom came shopping with me to find some cute looks for a hot July.
Our goal was to find a few fun looks that incorporated red, white and blue. Americana is in for fashion and decor, but we wanted to do it without being over-the-top patriotic. The outfit I wanted to show you this month was one that we put together that was a great example of how to use color blocking if you have never given it a try.
My background is in art, so I love incorporating bright, bold colors into my wardrobe, but I know working them in for the first time can be challenging. So here’s a great place to start. Look for a blouse that has a pattern that you really like – and make sure that the pattern has some color in it. Then, match that blouse with shorts, capris, pants or a skirt that are a solid bright color. Try to work outside your comfort zone and look for a definite color – not just khaki or denim.
In my Mom’s look, we paired her blouse with bright red skinny leggings, accenting the red in the pattern in the blouse. Color blocking with solids against patterns is a fun way to begin working bolder colors into your wardrobe and look – and at Goodwill, you will always be able to find so many fun colors to work with.
So happy hunting shoppers! And give color-blocking a try the next time you visit your local Goodwill!
