On Friday, August 2nd, the Westar Energy Foundation presented a check for $5,000 to our Education and Training Services Center. Westar‚Äôs contribution will support our services, which offer adults the opportunity to reach their educational and employment goals through assistance with GED preparation and completion, career counseling and transition into post-secondary education.

“Westar Energy is pleased to support Goodwill Industries in their efforts in assisting citizens in reaching their educational and employment goals,“says Cynthia McCarvel, Westar Energy Foundation President. ‚ÄúContinuous learning is about expanding your skills and increasing your knowledge and Goodwill Industries is very successful in providing these opportunities in Wichita.”

‚ÄúWestar Energy has been a longtime supporter of Goodwill and our programs which help individuals with employment barriers achieve independence through education and job training. We greatly appreciate the support we have received from Westar and thank them for their contributions to the community‚Äù ‚Äì Amber Hendrix, Vice President of Marketing and Development for Goodwill Industries of Kansas.

Since its inception in 1990, the Westar Energy Foundation has awarded more than $13 million to civic and charitable organizations dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for Kansans. The foundation targets youth and education, and supports programs that encourage youths to stay in school and develop to their full potential, promote STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education, develop workforce skills and enhance personal development to successfully participate in our society and improve the communities in which they live.

The Goodwill Education and Training Services program provided GED preparation assistance to over 1,200 individuals in 2012, of which 254 individuals graduated the program after earning their Kansas High School Diploma.
